2014 STUMPJUMPER, EPIC, TARMAC, ROUBAIX >> S-WORKS
Let the drooling begin - we've uncovered a look at some S-Works for 2014. These are pics only without any description, but from these there are some obvious changes in some models.
New S-Works cranks spotted on the Stumpjumper hardtail; an extremely sleek and rugged looking Stumpy EVO 26er, and...are those bottle cages included? Now that's value add.
Note that these are international pictures, not all these colour or model options will make it to Australia.
Doesn't get any better than this for the XC trails. The Epic frame has been redesigned with a special crevice in the frame above the shock mount to accommodate a multi-tool. |
Fast as lightning, the Stumpy hardtail looks racy and sports a redesigned looking S-Works crankset |
Roubaix is very smooth. Looks smooth too. Expect to find hydraulics in both rim brake and disc brake form in this and the coming years. |
Colour is definitely the hardest decision in the Epic lineup |
Brighter, happier 2014 Venge. |
SRAM's XX1 is everywhere on all forms of mountain bikes. Looks like Specialized cranks are compatible. |
XTR version of the XC weapon. Bottle cages included?! |
The Shiv remains a functional work of art but this version acquires hydraulic brakes and a very unique and, presumably, wind-tunnel-designed fuel cell nutrition/hydration system. |
The Roubaix, a sleeper in satin silver. |

Manly Cycles Hits the Podium at Shimano Rocky Trail GP, Round 2
This past weekend saw two team members, Rupert Elkington-Cole and Colin Jeffery, visit James Estate Winery in the Upper Hunter Region for round 2 of the Shimano Rocky Trail MTB Series.
Conditions were on our side with the area being one of the only in New South Wales without seeing rain. James Estate played an excellent host to the 300-plus riders entered on Saturday. Even gracious enough, given the remote location, to provide a camp ground Friday and Saturday nights for riders, family and support teams. Not to mention a complementary bottle of their finest.
The course through the winery has been around for a while, but the race line was developed recently to host this event specifically. 10.5 kilometres travels down fire road, through grassy fields between growing grapes on the vines, and into a singletrack wind cut into the forested hillside. This new line hadn't seen much use before the event, and as the day progressed the loose sandy corners and narrow pinches packed in to develop a more predictable flow. The days' fastest riders were just shy of 25 minutes to make it around.
Rupert and Colin entered Mens Elite Pairs 7-hour category. The days' effort netted a podium finish with 3rd place and the boys were stoked with a successful outcome.
Rocky Trail Entertainment are great event hosts and Manly Cycles team is looking forward to the next three events. We're aiming for more contestants in the coming races; going for the shop series trophy this year.
Set up camp and coffee near the start/finish transition |

Rupert fastidiously tracking race progress; big thanks to the timekeepers for your attention to detail. The ladies always had a smile for us. |

Test the Best ROUND TWO Coming This Month!
Specialized Release New TT/Triathalon Saddle - SITERO: That's 'Sit Aero'
Now available in shop in two variations - The Pro level saddle is RRP $300, with carbon rail and the Expert level is RRP $225, with hollow titanium rail.
Really cool detail feature of this saddle - integrated bottel cage mount!
After two years of prototyping, pressure testing and design changes, we've answered the challenge and created the final shape of our all-new triathlon saddle – the Sitero. Designed for the triathlete or time-triallist, its design incorporates a zonal design enabling athletes to ride in the aero position longer, with greater blood flow and less fatigue.

Here's Your Chance to Test the Best
Test the Best is your opportunity to ride and experience a Specialized bike.
We talk a lot about the technology and design that goes into making a bicycle. Not all frames are created equal. Specialized has a unique approach to their bikes, starting from the ground up. The process is from the cyclists perspective; bikes that are made by riders for riders. Every year bikes improve, but in the last few years especially, the leaps made in rider comfort and experience has raised the bar significantly.
Come to one of these events and experience the result of decades of bicycle evolution.
Test road bikes on Saturday at Centennial Park, or test Mountain bikes on Sunday at Hornsby MTB Park.
Manly Cycles team members will be at the events to chat, set up your ride, and hand over a few S-Works to throw a leg over.
Don't forget to bring pedals, shoes, helmet, and ID. See you there!

Specialized Enduro 29 - Long Travel on Big Wheels?
Not even worth mentioning anymore is the ubiquity of the 29 inch wheel and it's near-taking over of the industries' biggest brands line-ups. This is most clearly seen at your local trail, where cross country weapons wait in car parks for their mates on the small wheels to catch up the last stretch. It seems just a matter of time and all will be converted and equal again.
This is not the last chapter of the story. The photos below confirm that soon long travel, all mountain 29ers may see the light of day. Recently with Specialized, the 2013 Stumpjumper EVO has tried to fill that gap with stunning success. That bike has all but sold out in Australia for the 2013 model year and demand for the genre is growing. Enduro all-mountain racing is leading the charge as a niche between the grueling pace of cross-country and the increasingly extreme nature of downhill. This middle ground has an achievable appeal for the enthusiast looking to charge and experience some real head-to-head contests.
These are unconfirmed photos, but one look will tell you this bike is far beyond the prototype stage.
